Bathroom Remodeling in Atlanta using Tile.Frequently in Atlanta, when homeowners, want to remodel their bathrooms, a large part of the job will be installing tile. If the home was built before the 1980’s a large portion of the job may also be removal of the existing tile.
In homes these older homes, the tile is frequently installed on top of plaster, wire lathe, and mortar. The combination of these building components can be found on the floors and the walls.
Before the new bathroom can begin to take shape the old tile and foundation must be removed. This is strenuous work. Demolishing the tile and its foundation in older homes is often similar to breaking up concrete. There can be a lot of dust and the debris is very heavy. Fans should be used to help control the dust during this time. A zip wall can also be used to help contain the dust and debris to the area in which the work is being completed.
The installation of the new tile will likely be much easier on your home, because it will not weigh as much as the previously installed tile. Most often backer board is fastened to the floors and or walls to provide a light weight, but solid stable surface that the tile and mortar to adhere to. The remodeling contractor should apply the backer board onto of a layer of thinset and should then screw the backer board down to the subfloor or walls using screws.
Once this application has had time to dry the tile can be installed. Tile can be installed using mortar or tile glue. Tile glue costs more, but involves less steps, and can in most cases be applied more quickly. After the tile has had time to dry for 24-48 hours, the grout can be applied. Once the grout has been applied it too must cure for several days. At this time a grout sealer can be applied to help keep out moisture grease , mold and mildew. Once this has had time to dry, you newly tiled bathroom is now ready for service.
