Atlanta Ceiling Fan Installation

In Atlanta, Ceiling Fan Installation is popular handyman service for many homeowners.

Changing a ceiling fan allows you to give your space a different look and feel. And how subtle or drastic the change totally depends on the style of fan you select.

Ceiling fans can help with circulation and airflow throughout a home. In Atlanta, our weather is known for being hot and even unbearable. People here use fans all the time.

As a matter fact, when new homeowners close on a home, one of the first things that they like to do is replace overhead light fixtures and ceiling fans. Swapping out overhead light fixtures for ceiling fans can make a huge difference in bedrooms. Many people like to feel cool at night and a ceiling fan can really help move air over your body as you sleep.

And even if your home already has ceiling fans, sometimes the ones that you have just get tired and worn out.

Steps to Installing a Ceiling Fan

Ceiling fan can take anywhere from 1 to 2.5 hours depending on the installation. There are several variables that you have to consider. The first is whether or not the ceiling currently has an electrical box that is suitable to hang a fan from. If the existing box is not rated for a ceiling fan, then a new box must be installed that will allow us to safely install a ceiling fan. The next order of business is to determine the height of the ceiling fan.

There are two subfactors to consider under this one. The first is the overall height of the ceiling. The ceiling height matters because we will have to know how tall of a ladder to bring. Standard ceiling height is 8 feet. But there are many homes in Atlanta that have much taller ceilings, including some installations that feature vaulted ceilings, which require even more planning and consideration.

But lets get back to ceiling height. So after we determine how tall the ceiling is, then we know which ladder to bring. The next question that we must answer is whether there will be a downrod to lower the mounting height of the fan from the ceiling. And if a mounting rod is used, what length will be adequate.

In some scenarios it's more important for the controls on the fan to be accessible. In other installations the fan will be completely controlled by the remote or by wall switch. You also want to make sure that you don't mount the fan too low because it can make the ceilings in the room feel low, or it can be a visibility obstruction that may block the television or artwork or a window view.

Now it's time to actually install the fan. Unbox and assemble the unit, which includes, mounting bracket, fan blades, light kit and light bulbs (optional), and pull chains. Once installed its time to test the fan to ensure that it is balanced and isn't wobbling.

Ceiling fan Direction

Many people don't realize or think about it, but the direction that the ceiling fan blades turn affects the direction that the air moves. One direction pushes the air down, while the other direction draws the air up. There has been some research that suggests that reversing the direction of your fans in the winter can help save money on your heating bill in the winter.
